Jamie and Auggie try to keep warm inside a project van as they make the"Teach Live" call at 6:00am our time. We did the call inside the van because most of the team and staff are still asleep at that time and we didn't want to wake people up.

Mandakh (in the red jacket) spreads out a square in which she will identify every piece of living plant life that she can find. The spot was found randomly, as Mandakh whirled the four pins and rope around her head like a western cowboy would a lasso and let it land wherever it lands.

Every piece of vegetation was clipped by the pair of scissors that she is holding in her right hand. These pieces were placed into a paper bag for later analysis back at camp.

This is one of the many vulture nests that we have found while hiking around camp. Located on the side of a cliff, it is about seven feet long, and could easily fit a couple of people. It contained one egg, approximately 5 inches long.

Mandakh uses the yellow tool to record the GPS location into her log, so that she can know almost exactly where her samples have come from.
