Congratulations! You have just been chosen by Earthwatch, along with Mrs. Coleman, to join a group of researchers from Earthwatch and Conservation International in the Pantanal. Your sponsor is the National Geographic Education Foundation.

Listen to an audio about the Earthwatch expeditions.

1. What mountain range is the Pantanal located east of?

Your objective is to work with researchers with a goal of sending back to your family a day-by-day detail of your experiences in Brazil.

The Pantanal is the largest area of wetlands in the world. Visit the Undiscovered Wilderness and find out

2. In what country is the largest part of the Pantanal? In which other countries does the Pantanal lie? How many cities are found in the Pantanal?

3. The Pantanal is a flood plain, not a swamp, which fills up with water during the rainy season. Where does it drain during the dry season? What happens to the region as it drains?

You will be leaving for the Pantanal this week! There are many things you must do before you leave, however.

First, you must learn where it is you are going! Follow the links and see!

Where are you going? This is a HUGE world..... How is your geography for South America?

World Geography Quiz

4. What was your score?. Try Geospy (choose South America) for another geography game. Did you do better or worse? What was your score on this one?
Now visit the Endangered Ecosystems site and find out exactly where the Pantanal is located.
5. What does the name "Rio Negro" mean?
6. What is the physical size of the Pantanal? (as compared to another place)
IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
7. Why is the Pantanal so important to the world? (name AT LEAST 3 reasons) See Undiscovered Wilderness

INSTRUCTIONS (Your Assignment)

Place your geography score, and exactly where the Pantanal is located in an email to Mrs. Coleman (on the link below). That will tell her you have started the Expedition. You have exactly 7 days to complete all questions from each of the seven pages in this assignment in order to receive credit. You must use complete sentences to post your answers.

Make SURE you put your first and last name in the name field, and the Page and Questions you are answering in the email field.

Answer each question as instructed.

Send your answers to the teacher, directions will be provided in class. Be sure to type out your answers on a WORD document first, just in case your message becomes erased. You can copy it from there right into the email and send directly to your email to send.
