This is the Fazenda Rio Negro. This lovely ranch has a long history, and is now used as a home base for Conservation International research projects for the preservation of the Pantanal.

Your accommodations are incredible! Visit the Fazenda Rio Negro. Make sure to click the ENGLISH version on the bottom right hand corner -- unless you speak Portuguese!

Take some time to browse through pictures of the fazenda and its surrounding areas. There is an incredible picture in the "Our Fields" section.

Look for answers to the following questions:

1. What percentage of the Pantanal is considered to be in pristine condition?

2. What does pristine mean? use Miriam Webster Online for help.

3. What is the remaining population of the Macaws?

4. What is the main source of income for people living in the Pantanal?

5. What is the most serious threat to the area?

6. In what year did Conservation International purchase the fazenda?

7. How many "houses" exist on the fazenda property?
